Honorary organiser Mike Homer said he was hoping to beat last year’s total of £25,000 and urged people to pay the stall a visit, which is outside Boots every day until November 11.

Mayor of Fareham David Norris said: ‘It is important to remember those who have fought and have lost their lives, and the Poppy Appeal is a great way to ensure that those people are never forgotten.’

Jakub Chrus, from the shopping centre, said the centre was honoured to host the appeal.
