CUBS are spending a night on a Second World War-era submarine.

The group of 24 from 1st Park Gate Sea Scouts, in Fareham, will stay overnight on HMS Alliance, which is at the Royal Navy Submarine Museum, in Gosport.

It is the first time Scouts have been allowed to stay on board a UK submarine.

And it is only the second time the museum has allowed anyone to sleep on Alliance.

They will be carrying out exercises during their two-day stay tomorrow and Saturday.

The submarine is the subject of a £7m restoration project.

External work has now been completed, the final phase, focusing on internal conservation, starts in autumn.
