SHOPPERS were evacuated from Fareham Shopping Centre today due to a smouldering light fitting.

Fire crews from Fareham and Portchester fire stations were called to the incident this afternoon at 1.30pm.

A light fitting in River Island had overheated and began to smoke.

Firefighters located the problem and dealt with it, they also used extractor fans to get rid of the smoke.

Shoppers were allowed back into the centre at 2.15pm.
