The Mayor of Fareham Councillor Trevor Cartwright completed one mile of the 34-mile challenge, and almost 30 other volunteers helped him clock up the rest.

The swimathon was held in the Holiday Inn, Titchfield, in aid of the Mayor’s three charities Cystic Fibrosis Trust, Toe in the Water, and Warsash Wasps Football.

An impressive £1,000 was raised for the cause and cash is still flowing in.

Cllr Cartwright said: ‘It was a very enjoyable day but I am quite tired now though.’
