Fears that charm of village is threatened

CONCERNS have been raised about a village losing its character with a new housing development.

An application to build 28 homes on land south west of the cemetery in Cemetery Lane, Woodmancote, Westbourne, have been submitted to Chichester District Council.

Objectors have raised concerns about increased pressure on school places and medical care and development in the greenbelt.

In a letter of objection, Mr and Mrs Hardy, of Foxbury Lane, said: ‘Westbourne is a village which is under massive attack and, if this building plan is passed, it will most definitely, and sadly, lose its status.’

Mr and Mrs Drinkwater, of Cemetery Lane, said: ‘With the increase in housing we feel the village is being suffocated with new houses, losing its village feel.’

They said recent developments had already caused parking problems on the roads.

A statement from developers said the proposals would provide valuable affordable housing for the area. The application will be considered by councillors later this year.
