BUDDING young filmmakers in Portsmouth are being urged to make a movie about their local area.

A selection of the films will be shown on screens in cities across the UK as part of the 2012 London Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Those who want to take part in the competition, BT Big Voice, need to be aged between 11 and 19 and able to spot an issue or problem that affects their community.

The next step is to write a script about the problem, and 36 entries will be made into a film by media students in the area’s universities and colleges.

The students will be given a £1,000 budget to produce the film, and ‘Oscars’ will be awarded to regional and national winners.
