Communications support officer at Portsmouth Together, Chole Ellis explains why their website is the go to place for volunteers

Portsmouth Together has reached a new milestone with more than 100 organisations now registered to our website.

The volunteering support network provides visitors the option to browse a number of volunteering opportunities. Making it easier than ever to match potential volunteers with the right opportunity for them.

Volunteering can make a huge difference to your own life and the lives of those around you.

Many organisations in the city rely on the support of volunteers to enhance the services they are able to offer.

People volunteer for many different reasons, some to gain skills and confidence to get into work, others want to help people and feel part of their local community.

Whatever the reason the Portsmouth Together website is a good place to begin your search.

The simple format allows you to view up to date volunteering opportunities across the city of Portsmouth.

You can search by interest, category or organisation to discover a world of opportunities on your door step.

Mariana Rocha,of the University of Portsmouth Student union said: ‘Portsmouth Together has been invaluable in keeping open lines of communication between a lot of organisations around the city and I couldn’t be more thankful for their support this year.’

All opportunities on the website are subject to the Portsmouth Together code of conduct designed to ensure that volunteers are supported, well managed and treated fairly.

The positions are designed to provide volunteers with high levels of satisfaction and the chance to gain new or enhance existing skills.

For registered organisations the website introduces them to a number of people who are already looking for a volunteering opportunity.

It allows them the platform to post placements and monitor the interest in.

John Pounds Centre volunteer co-ordinater, Maria Mason said:’ The Portsmouth Together website has been the most useful tool when finding valuable volunteers whom essentially make the majority of our projects at the John Pounds Centre exceed.

‘The website itself is very clear and user friendly and it is reassuring to know that a member of the team keeps track on our account and are on hand to help.

‘Portsmouth Together is my go to avenue for help as I know I will receive an efficient and productive service.’
