PREPARATIONS are well under way for a community open day at Havant’s civic centre, The Plaza.

Watersports simulators, supplied by Portsmouth Watersports, will be outside the front of the building and there will be taster sessions for the forthcoming Water Sports Festival on Hayling Island later this summer.

Staff from the Eastern Solent Coastal Partnership will be there too with a small RIB boat and survey equipment.

Sporting displays will be put on by Horizon Leisure and Sport Hampshire and Isle of Wight.

Entertainment will be provided by Angel Radio and the Urban Vocal Group.

The Princess Royal will be attending the event to unveil a plaque to mark the opening of the building to the community.

The fun takes place next Tuesday from 11am to 6pm.

Councillor Mike Cheshire, who oversees marketing at Havant Borough Council, said: ‘Things are coming together now and the line-up of the day’s events looks very exciting.’
