FIVE fire engines and two specialist appliances are dealing with a fire in Somers Town.

Firefighters were called to Handsworth House at 11.20am today.

The fire is believed to be on the fourth floor of the sheltered housing block.

Two fire engines from Cosham, two from Southsea, one from Portchester, plus the special equipment unit and the aerial ladder platform, are in attendance.

Six firefighters used breathing apparatus and three jets to tackle the blaze.

There are no persons reported as being trapped or injured from the fire.
