Fire destroys 15 tons of straw

Morning weather and travel: mist descends on parts of Hampshire

FIREFIGHTERS have battled throughout the night to put out a huge fire in a village.

More than 15 tons of straw went up in flames on farmland off Ashcroft Lane, Finchdean, near Rowlands Castle.

Fire crews from Havant and Horndean went to tackle the blaze at about 1.30am today.

The blaze was just a few feet from nearby houses and firefighters battled to stop the fire spreading.

Fire engines from Cosham and Southsea also arrived as more firefighters helped to hose down the fire.

By 8am today, the fire had been contained and fire crews were on standby as it was left the burn itself out.

The cause of the fire is not yet known and is being investigated.
