A huge fire has ripped through Bognor Regis Town Football Club's grounds destroying part of the clubhouse.

More than 60 firefighters were sent to tackle the blaze this morning and resources were pulled in from across West Sussex to try and keep it at bay.

The fire, at the home of The Rocks in Nyewood Lane, Bognor, began at 5am today and seven fire engines were sent to the scene.

The blaze ripped through the clubhouse and changing rooms, and firefighters this morning said about a quarter of the clubhouse had been damanged.

Sussex Police were called to the scene and an investigation has begun into what caused the fire, but this morning it was it is too early to tell.

At 7am today, firefighters began to scale back the operation as the blaze had been put out and were preparing to spend the rest of the day damping down the area and assessing the full extent of the damage.

The club is currently 15th in the Blue Square South league and the players were due to be playing AFC Wimbledon away this Saturday.
