FIREFIGHTERS were called to a taxi firm which had been set on fire in the early hours of the morning.

626 Taxis, based in Brockhampton Lane, Havant, was targeted at 2.30am today.

A passer-by saw the front door of the property was well alight and alerted firefighters.

A crew from Havant arrived and were able to put out the flames quickly but the door was destroyed.

They had to use fans to get rid of the build up of smoke inside the building.

The police are working with the fire service to establish how the fire began. Tim Burgess, watch manager at Havant fire station, said: ‘It was the only way into the property and it had actually burnt all the way through the door and filled the property with smoke.’

No one was in the building at the time.

Police are investigating.
