FIREFIGHTERS from Southsea were called to a fire in a Portsea flat in the early hours.

The fire broke out in the property’s lounge yesterday morning.

Two people managed to get out and raise the alarm at 2.30am.

The damage to the flat, in St James’s Street, Portsmouth, was mainly caused by smoke.

Ambulance staff treated the residents for smoke inhalation but neither required hospital attention.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the police, who were also called out.
