PORTSMOUTH Crown Court was evacuated because of a suspected fire in a lift shaft.
One man who was trapped in a lift on the top floor had to be rescued by security officers who forced the doors open.
The alarm went off at 10.45am today.
The judges and jurors were taken out to the back of the court building while others in the building were stood outside the front.
Two fire engines arrived on scene and firefighters entered the building.
The court has not been affected by today’s strikes involving public sector workers and a number of trials were going on when the alarm went off.
The firefighters checked the building and gave the all clear for people to re-enter the building.
