Firefighters are tackling a huge blaze at a warehouse at a Portsmouth industrial estate.

Crews were called to Scope Crash Repair Centre in Airport Service Road on the Airport Industrial Estate, Copnor at 7.52pm.

Witnesses said a wall of flames had engulfed a building and a number of vans were on fire.

Two crews from Cosham, three from Southsea, one from Havant plus the aerial ladder from Southsea and the Special Equipment Unit from Cosham are on the scene.

A 200m cordon has been put in place on Robinson Way as the tackle the fire.

A Hampshire Fire and Rescue service spokeswoman described the blaze as ‘well alight’ and said that crews were tackling the fire on ground and first floor of the warehouse.

Large plumes of smoke can be seen coming from the fire from as far as Gosport.

A spokeswoman from Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service said: ‘At 10.25pm we started to scale down our operation as most of the blaze was out by that time.

‘No-one was hurt in the incident, and it’s thought the building was empty when the fire broke out.’
