FIVE tonnes of hay caught fire in the early hours of this morning.

Firefighters have been dealing with the blaze in a field off Old Mill Lane, Denmead, since about 5am.

Crews from Waterlooville, Horndean and Havant attended.

Hose reel jets were used to put out the flames.

Havant firefighters sprayed foam over the hay to stop steam coming off, which would cause a problem as they’re under pylons.

The rest of the team is still there cooling the area down.

The cause of the fire is unknown.
