Firefighters were called when a fault in a residential lift at Gunwharf Quays left a resident unable to reach his home.

Southsea firefighters were called at 11pm last night to help the man, who uses a wheelchair and was stranded on the third floor, back to his ninth floor apartment.

Crew manager Alan Moseley said: ‘We managed to get the lift working for him and took him up to his flat.

‘It was just a bit of fire service tinkering. He was fine. He wasn’t distressed at all. It only took about 10 minutes.’
