FIREFIGHTERS were drafted in to help rescue a patient trapped by flood water in Hayling Island.

Sixteen crew members from Havant and Fareham and one senior officer helped the ambulance service gain access to the woman at a property in Gutner Lane.

The area was battered by high winds and rain during the storm on Friday night and many areas were still flooded when the emergency services were called out at about 9.40pm yesterday.

The woman was rescued and placed in the care of medics.

Details of her condition are not yet known.
