HAMPSHIRE Fire and Rescue Service has issued new advice on how smoke alarms work after it was revealed many people are confused about where to fit them.

A list of the strangest places firefighters have found smoke alarms has been released to highlight that they should only ever be attached to the ceilings of rooms.

These included a man who kept his alarm in a drawer, but took it into the garden with him when he had a cigarette, an alarm which was kept on top of a TV to stop it catching on fire, and one which was kept under the kitchen sink.
