FIREFIGHTERS tackled a fire under the stairs of a Portsmouth home.

The incident in Ringwood Road, Eastney, happened around 6.30pm last night.

No-one was in the house at the time and crews got in through an open door to put out the flames. The occupants had come back by the time the fire was put out.

Meanwhile, Gosport firefighters were called out around the same time after some coal was set alight in Leesland Park. A nearby resident raised the alarm.
