FIREFIGHTERS were called out after a kitchen in a flat caught fire in North End.

Crews from Cosham and Southsea were alerted after a man living in the Heathfield Road property dailled 999 just after midnight on Saturday.

The man was waiting outside his flat when emergency services arrived.

Firefighters wore breathing apparatus and used hose reel jets to tackle the fire.

The flat was badly damaged by smoke. The cause of the fire is unknown.
