FIREFIGHTERS paid a visit to a street after residents raised hundreds of pounds for the service’s charity.

People in Tintern Road, Gosport raised money for local firefighters as they celebrated the Queen’s Golden Jubilee. And 10 years later to mark the Diamond Jubilee, they decided to support the Fire Fighters Benevolent Fund again, raising £500. Firefighters from Gosport station met residents this week to receive a cheque and say thank you.

Alison Murray, 44, of Tintern Road, said: ‘They are always there when we need them. We have had a few things on the street that we have needed them for.’

Around 200 people turned up and there was a bouncy castle for the children to enjoy. Alison added: ‘The party was brilliant. We had a really good day. It was windy but there was no rain and everybody enjoyed it.’
