FIVE people were rescued by Portsmouth’s lifeboat after their speed boat broke down near the entrance to Langstone Harbour.

Two women and three men were returning from the Cowes celebrations on the Isle of Wight when they got into difficulties.

A crew from Portsmouth RNLI were called out at 4.22am today and it took more than an hour to tow the 8m vessel back to shore.

Aaron Gent, from Portsmouth RNLI, said: ‘The crew were amazed they gave them £100 for their efforts when they found out they were volunteers.’
