A CAMPER van burst into flames last night.

The incident took place shortly after 5pm on Portsdown Hill.

It is not known how the fire started.

However, flames rapidly spread across the vehicle, engulfing it, a spokesman for Hampshire Fire and Rescue said.

A crew from Cosham fire station was called to tackle the blaze.

Using Cosham’s water tender vehicle, it took about 30 minutes for firefighters to quell the flames.

No-one is believed to have been injured in the incident.

A spokesman for the fire and rescue service said: ‘There was a vehicle on fire when crews arrived.

‘It was a camper-style vehicle. The fire was extinguished and no-one was injured.’

Fire crews left the scene shortly before 5.30pm.
