PEOPLE were evacuated from a block of flats after rubbish caught fire in a bin shed early today.

Firefighters were called to tackle the blaze, which took hold behind a restaurant in Clarendon Road, Southsea.

Ten residents of nearby flats were evacuated just after 1am today, while two fire crews from Southsea put out the blaze.

The fire service was also called to another bin fire behind the Sue Ryder charity shop in Tonbridge Street, Southsea, at 9pm last night.
