MOST people mark turning 50 by throwing a big knees-up.
But Catherington couple Melanie and Paul Flint are celebrating the milestone by doing 50 charity fundraisers.
Mrs Flint, of Lone Barn, who will be 50 on January 2, said: ‘We were talking with our daughters Floss and Millie and decided we wanted to do something more than a party.
‘The five charities we are supporting we know personally, either through family members or friends.’
The fundraising so far includes contributing to a family swear box, working in a soup kitchen, sponsored runs, walks, a sky dive, and giving up drinking for a month.
The first fundraiser was a 24-hour tennis match just days before Paul’s 50th on August 1.
Other events in the pipeline include the Great South Run and a Boxing Day sea swim.
So far more than £2,300 has been raised for the Epilepsy Research, Mind, eating disorder charity Beat, Riding for the Disabled and The Rosemary Foundation. Visit virginmoneygiving.com and search for Flint.
