PORTSMOUTH’S central library reopened today to huge acclaim - five months after a devastating flooding.
Parents, students and members of the public attended the official launch this morning to be greeted with music entertainment, ‘welcome back’ balloons and library staff with big smiles across their faces.
Since mid-August, the Guildhall Square facility was shut due to a flood caused by taps being left on.
Two 16-year-olds from Portsmouth have been charged with one count each of causing criminal damage to the Norrish Central Library, causing more than £150,000 in damage, on August 18.
The defendants, who cannot be named for legal reasons, have pleaded not guilty and are currently awaiting trial.
