THOUSANDS of wildflower seeds will be planted in Lee-on-the-Solent to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee.

Volunteers are wanted to help sow the seeds at Megson Park next month.

Members of Gosport and Lee-on-the-Solent In Bloom will plant the seeds to mark the Diamond Jubilee as part of the Royal Horticultural Society’s Wild About Wildflowers campaign.

Councillor Graham Burgess, chairman of Gosport Borough Council’s community board, said: ‘The RHS works to improve where people live through community gardening initiatives such as Wild about Wildflowers and Britain in Bloom.

‘Groups are encouraged to showcase their horticultural expertise and environmental responsibility through gardening projects.

‘That’s something we know the people of Gosport and Lee-on-the-Solent are very good at.’

The RHS wildflower campaign aims to cover more than 200,000 square feet of land in the country with wildflowers this year.

The event takes place on April 14 and new volunteers are welcome to join.
