Former soldier is taking giant steps
STEPPING OUT Major Phil Packer at the start of his two-mile walk joined by Olympian Iwan Thomas
A HEROIC former soldier has taken the first steps on an epic fundraising journey with pupils from Chichester.
Major Phil Packer suffered a spinal cord injury in 2008 and was told he would never walk again yet still went on to complete the London Marathon twice and climb the mountain El Capitan.
His latest fundraising challenge began at Chichester College when he walked the first two miles of a 2,012-mile adventure in 2012.
He said: ‘If all the events are as well supported as the one here at Chichester College it’s going to be a great year.’
All the money raised will go to the British Inspirational Trust which supports young people facing adversity.
