Firefighters battled a large blaze that engulfed sheds and fences in Cosham last night.

Around 40 firefighters from Cosham, Southsea, Havant and Portchester tackled the blaze after some sheds and approximately 60 metres of fencing caught alight.

The incident, which happened at gardens in Knowsley Road and Cosham Park Avenue, took three hours to put out and to make the area safe.

Firefighter Simon Bone, from Cosham fire station, said; ‘We were called around 11pm to a few sheds and garden fences on fire.

‘We were there for around three hours because it was difficult to access some of the fires.

‘There were quite a few different fires that had started all at the same time which made it difficult to get it under control.

‘Then, once it was out, we had to dampen the area down.’

No one was injured and the fire is being investigated.

It is unknown if it is suspicious.
