Potential foster parents are invited for a mince pie and a chat to find out more about caring for children.

Portsmouth City Council has set up a drop-in morning where anyone interested in fostering can meet carers and social workers to talk about what's involved.

The two-hour event, from 10am tomorrow will take place in Conference Room L, on the second floor of the civic offices in Guildhall Square, Portsmouth.

Portsmouth City Council leader Councillor Gerald Vernon-Jackson said: 'I encourage you to come along to the drop-in event to ask any questions you may have about becoming a foster carer so you can decide if it is something for you.'

The council's fostering team hopes to recruit a variety of carers to offer as much placement choice as possible to children and young people. Anyone can apply, regardless of marital status, sexuality or residential status, and it's hoped people from a range of ethnic backgrounds will apply.
