STAFF and foster families working with a council are taking part in the Great South Run.

The 100-strong team from Hampshire County Council will run the race in the city later this month to promote the authority’s fostering service.

Gill Bendall, whose family has been fostering for four years, said: ‘I have seen first hand how a young person’s life can be turned around by the kindness and acceptance of a foster family.

‘I really hope that when people see us running they will be prompted to learn more about fostering.

‘If we can spark that interest in just a few people, and help them make the decision to foster, I’ll count that as a great achievement.’

The race takes places on October 26 and will see thousands of people run through Portsmouth’s streets.

Councillor Keith Mans, executive lead member for children’s services, added: ‘It is wonderful to see so many of our staff giving up their time, and energy, to help raise awareness.’
