GOSPORT is planning to give the torch a great send-off across the water as the flame is put on the ferry to Portsmouth.

There will be free entertainment in Walpole Park from 1pm to 5pm, and down at the Falkland Gardens from 2pm to 6pm, when the flame goes on the ferry.

Jacky Charman of Gosport Going4Gold said: ‘Gosport has got some really fabulous cycleways, and bikes are allowed to go down the new bus-way, and then there’s a cycle route right into Gosport from the end of that,

‘You can then cycle back out again without having to worry about being stuck in traffic.

‘We worked hard to get the relay to Gosport, so we want to encourage as many people as possible to come along and enjoy the events we’ve got planned.’

The normal ferry service will be running at 15-minute intervals.

But due to the torch relay, departures between 3.45pm and 6.15pm may be delayed.

Traffic diversion signs will also be put up.
