BRAVE fundraisers are preparing to dangle from one of Portsmouth’s iconic buildings in a charity abseil.
The event is being held tomorrow at Spinnaker Tower to raise funds for Ickle Pickles, a charity that supports premature babies who need intensive care in neonatal units.
Emma Nimmo, 31, is preparing to take the plunge to say thank you to the charity for the support it gave her and husband Mike when she gave birth to twin boys two years ago.
Hayden and Owen were born when Emma was just 23 weeks and two days pregnant. Owen did not make it through the birth and Hayden, who weighed just 1lb 2oz, was transferred to intensive care.
Despite odds that said he only had a five to 10 per cent chance of survival, he pulled through and the family is looking forward to his second birthday party, which is taking place on Sunday.
Emma, a police call handler, said she was so grateful to the charity that she wanted to raise money to give something back.
Mrs Nimmo, of Primrose Way, Locks Heath, said: ‘I’m nervous as it’s my first abseil and my first fundraiser.
‘We feel like we owe so much not just to the hospital for all the help the nurses gave Hayden, but also to the charity. It’s our way of giving something back and to help others at the unit.’
She will be cheered on by husband Mike, 29, a police officer, who will be waiting for her with Hayden.
Emma has raised more than £500 in sponsorship so far.
