A BOWLING club is raising money for a community centre which was devastated by floods last year.

The Thorngate short mat bowling club has been playing in the ballroom at Thorngate Halls in Gosport every Tuesday for the past 20 years.

But the floor in the ballroom was damaged by floods in November and it has recently been replaced.

Now, Gosport Community Association, which runs the centre, is hoping to raise £20,000 to refurbish the venue. The bowling club will hold a bowling fun day on Thursday, October 27 from 9am until 5pm, in a bid to boost the funding.

Jim Barry, chairman of the club, said: ‘The damage to the floor in the ballroom has resulted in some uneven playing over the last few months, but since the floor has been replaced, everything is back to normal and our members are extremely pleased with the new floor.

‘It is vital that the people of Gosport support their local community centre and I hope that many will turn up to our event in October.’
