AN AMBITIOUS fundraising target for renovating a church has almost been reached.

Clergy and parishioners at St Mary’s Church, in High Street, Gosport have raised £28,500 of £30,000. Cash has been donated and comes from a range of events. As reported, Father Peter Glas abseiled from Spinnaker Tower in May.

Taking his leap of faith raised £2,800 alone, shooting the total skywards.

Now the church has been picked as one of Waitrose Gosport branch’s three charities of the month for August.

And next month a concert by the Pontypridd Welsh Male Voice Choir will raise funds.

The performance starts at 7.30pm on September 28 and tickets cost £8.50.
