A DEAL has been reached in Brussels that aims to ensure the long-term survival of the fishing industry.

South-east MEP Cathering Bearder has welcomed the new decision that allows fishermen to rely on quotas based on scientific advice.

She said: ‘Thanks to major reforms, we are moving towards more sustainable levels of fishing.’

Mrs Bearder is pushing the government to distribute fair quotas to small-scale fishermen in the area, securing their livelihoods.
