GREEN-FINGERED householders can buy a wheelie bin to place their prunings, grass and hedge cuttings in.

The service is being introduced by East Hampshire District Council in addition to the 90-litre reusable sack already available.

Residents can now pay for a 240-litre bin which will be collected each fortnight.

The annual cost for a wheeled bin licence will be £55, while one reusable sack licence will now be £30.

There is also a one-off purchase cost of the sack or wheelie bin.

Councillor Hilary Ayer said: ‘We’re excited about the introduction of the wheeled bin for garden waste.

‘It has proved to be popular in neighbouring authorities and we feel there will be a benefit for some residents who struggle to place their sacks out for collection or who have large gardens.

‘While we encourage residents to home compost, we realise that this is not always possible for everybody and the garden waste service is a valuable asset to the people who use it.’
