TEMPORARY traffic lights are in place following a gas leak on a major Fareham road.

Following emergency gas leak repairs due to a truck hitting a gas main, police have put in temporary traffic lights.

They are in place between Longfield roundabout and Speedfield Park roundabout (by Hendy Ford) with a single lane only at this stage.

A spokesman from Hampshire Police said: ‘Traffic is still very heavy throughout the area.

‘We want to thank members of the public for their patience. All agencies are working hard to help ease the congestion.’

Big queues built up in Gosport and Fareham at lunchtime after the accident at 11am.

The accident happened near to the HMS Collingwood naval base.

Police said the driver was unhurt.
