EMERGENCY gas works closed a road in Portsmouth last night.

Work to repair a gas leak started in Eastney Road, Eastney at 10.30pm with diversions put in place.

The road was closed northbound and traffic diverted down Henderson Road.

Hannah Brett, press officer for gas network SGN, said the leak posed no threat to public safety but she was unable to say when work will finish.
