LETTER OF THE DAY: Crippling costs of cyber attacks

THANK you so much.

Those were the heartfelt words from Jan Gough, manager of a service in Havant that is under threat due to funding cuts.

Mrs Gough accepted a donation from Waitrose in Havant towards the running costs of the Age Concern Information and Resource Centre in Market Parade.

The centre’s funding was pulled by Hampshire County Council and it is now surviving on a £70,000 government grant.

However, the money will only last another six months or so and Mrs Gough is still desperately trying to find new funding streams.

To give a helping hand, Waitrose staff organised a curry and bingo night, raising £130.55.

Hannah Denman, customer service team leader at Waitrose, said: ‘Age Concern has an older customer base and if that closed, we might lose our customers as well.’
