DISABLED people were given the chance to venture off the beaten track with a mobility charity’s new venture.

Fareham Shopmobility held its third Boots’n’Scoots day around the Swanwick Lake and at the Bursledon Brickworks.

The outings are a new scheme, recently started by Fareham Shopmobility’s manager Jessica Wooldridge.

She said: ‘I’m also a walk leader for Walking for Health but those aren’t really suitable for people who use our service, so we had the idea to tie the two things together.

‘We started them earlier this year and they’ve taken off really well. We’re already planning to do a couple more this year.

‘On this one we were able to really enjoy the countryside, it was lovely. One of the gentlemen told me he hadn’t been out like that in years. People are really enjoying them.’

Previous outings have taken an historic town centre walk and the Fareham Easy Access Trail around Portchester waterfront.
