PEOPLE across Portsmouth are being offered the chance to have their electric blankets tested for free.
Portsmouth City Council and Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service are offering testing on Monday at the Salvation Army citadel in Albert Road and on Tuesday, October 1 at Cosham Fire Station. Both sessions run from 9.30am until 3.30pm.
Robert Watt, the council’s head of adult social care, said: ‘Electric blankets are a good way of staying warm this winter, but it is so important that you have yours checked before you start using it again.’
Steve Pearce, watch manager at Cosham Fire Station, said: ‘We advise anyone with an electric blanket to get it tested on an annual basis.
‘If you haven’t had yours checked this year, then come and see us.
‘In the past, we have been to house fires where an electric blanket has been the cause of the fire.’
Call (023) 9284 1762 to book, or visit the venue on the day. Appointments will be on a first come, first served basis.
For housebound residents, the council will collect and return your blanket for free if you phone up.
