YOUNGSTERS will have the chance to shine as they take to the ice for a new project.

Planet Ice Gosport is inviting children from the area to win the chance of taking part in Skating Stars.

The new initiative is encouraging kids to get their skates on with the chance of performing in a show.

Fifteen prospects will be given an unlimited skating pass and six Learn to Skate lessons. After that period there will be a selection process to take the 15 down to 10, and then after a further six weeks the 10 will be taken down to five finalists.

Planet Ice is then planning a finals night gala where each of the five skaters will skate two short pieces.

Manager of the rink, on Forest Way, Jill Grindrod, said: ‘We felt Skating Stars was a great opportunity for us to get on board with.

‘Hopefully it will improve the confidence of the youngsters in our community.’

Auditions to be in the top 15 are on Saturday, April 25, from midday.
