LIVE music at a popular summer venue is set to boost a charity’s efforts.

Filthy Pig Promotions is putting on Mr Clean (sounds of The Jam) live at Southsea Bandstand on Saturday, July 30.

Promoter Steve Baker has invited Care after Combat to have a stall on the day in a bid to drum up support for the charity.

The group, co-founded by comedian Jim Davidson, helps veterans who have turned to drugs and crime.

Steve said: ‘They raise money and support for veterans who have seen a lot at war and struggled to integrate.

‘Some go to drink and drugs and some go to prison.

‘What they do is rehouse them and try to help them.

‘They look after them, offering counselling and support.’

The charity, based in Whiteley, also wants to reduce re-offending by veterans in the criminal justice system.

Portsmouth band Funkstar are set to please the crowds with funk tunes at the Bandstand and Indie-Rockers The Novatones will also perform.
