A DISTRICT’S residents are to get kerbside glass collections from October.

Winchester City Council’s cabinet has approved the monthly collections as part of its new recycling contract.

All households will be provided with a plastic crate for their glass bottles and jars. The existing network of bottle banks will still be available throughout the district, which includes Bishop’s Waltham, Wickham and Denmead.

The initiative is expected to recycle an extra 1,000 tonnes of glass each year.

Cllr Kelsie Learney, leader of the council said, ‘Glass collection is an extremely popular service and we hope that the residents of the Winchester district will embrace this additional recycling opportunity as they have done previously with garden waste.’
