Visitors can go behind the scenes of some of Portsmouth’s most famous naval attractions as part of the annual Heritage Open Days scheme next month.

There are free exclusive tours of attractions in areas not normally accessible to the public between September 10 and 13.

Opportunities include going down into a dry dock dating back to 1801, seeing underneath the newly-opened HMS M33 and going below the waterline of HMS Victory and viewing the keel close up.

See things in a different light during a twilight tour of HMS Alliance and go underneath the submarine to find out how she was built and how she worked alongside expert submariner guides.

Visitors can also head to the multi-award-winning Mary Rose Museum to learn about how artefacts are conserved.

All the tours are free but spaces are limited and must be booked in advance.
