Going bananas for Fairtrade Fortnight

THE Mayor of Havant will be giving out free bananas during Fairtrade Fortnight.

Gerald Shimbart will be supporting the campaign by helping to give out fairtrade bananas next Tuesday as council staff arrive for work.

Havant Fairtrade group has organised several events for the fortnight, which aims to ensure that farmers in the developing world get a fair deal.

Pupils from St Thomas More Primary School in Bedhampton have designed artwork which will displayed in The Plaza.

Havant Fairtrade group will have a stall at Havant College from 12.30pm to 2pm next Tuesday, with more bananas and the chance for students to make a Fairtrade sculpture.

On Saturday, March 2 at 7pm there will be a meal cooked with Fairtrade ingredients and a talk at The Meeting Place, at Havant United Reformed Church, in Elm Lane. A Fairtrade breakfast takes place on March 5 from 8.45am to 9.45am at St Mary’s Church Hall on Hayling. For more information call Sue James on (023) 9225 0267.
