THE real winners of a charity race day at at Fontwell Park have received their prizes.

Southern Water organised the event at the racetrack near Chichester, and the day raised £35,000 for seven different charities.

They are WaterAid, Asthma Allergy and Inflammation Research (AAIR), Cancer Research UK, RNLI, St Barnabas House Hospice, the Air Ambulance Trust and Help for Heroes.

Representatives from each of the charities returned to Fontwell Park to receive their cheques.

More than 4,000 people packed the stands for the day’s racing, including special guest Bob Champion, a jockey who won the Grand National in 1981, and Sascha Kindred, a Paralympic swimming medallist.

Over the past six years the event has raised £425,000 for charity in total.
