Dozen of high end cars are set to go under the hammer today (Saturday 12 September).
Among them will be a number of cars owned by television and radio star Chris Evans.
The pinnacle of these will be a rare right-hand drive 1966 Ferrari 275 GTB/6C Alloy with an estimated value of £2.6m-£2.9m. Also included are a number of other high-end Ferraris and a replica of the iconic car from 1968 film Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
In addition to his cars, he will be auctioning a number of items of automobilia with the proceeds going to BBC Children In Need.
Talking yesterday (Friday 11 September) ahead of the auction, James Knight, Bonhams’ group motoring director, said there are also cars with a an ‘interesting social history story.
He said: “We’ve got a BMW 328 cabriolet. It’s not the most valuable car in the sale but it’s quite a rare car.
“What’s so nice about this is it belongs to the same gentleman who bought it in 1968, but he bought it in Czechoslavakia and drove the car out of Czechoslovakia to avoid the oncoming oppression that was coming in from the Soviet regime.”
